The Conductors Are Here!

The Conductors, our new docent group, are looking for a few “extra hands” to share the fun and adventure of the wonderful world of railroading. This volunteer crew provides guided tours to the public, educates community and children’s groups, and entertains visiting dignitaries and enthusiasts from around the world.

Using our world-class Museum exhibits, we cover the fascinating story  of the steel rail in the Southwest, and show our guests the history, geology, and romance of conductorsthe Old West.  Families enjoy our “hands-on” interactive demonstrations of modeling, designing and building the miniature worlds our little trains roll through.  Since kids don’t get many chances to ride the “real thing” today, our Conductors are keeping the world of railroading alive for the next generation. We have our share of fun, too, with periodic operating sessions on the Museum’s gigantic layouts, free family memberships, free passes to many local museums, and special events for docents only.

Come and join us in our mission to tell the story of the Iron Horse! Contact Chief Docent Charles Young at 619-696-0199, or by e-mail to cyoung@sdmrm.org.
