Building a Model Railroad

This program takes scouts on a step-by-step, hands-on journey through the basics of constructing a scale model railroad. From painting and plastering to laying cork bed and track, by the time you are finished, you will have a small HO scale model railroad that you can add to over time and eventually make fully operational! It makes for a dynamic and fun experience that can be completed individually or collaboratively.

Once you complete the program, scouts will receive the “Engineer Your Future STEAM Patch,” which is included in the price.

The Able Arch & the Trusty Truss

What makes arches and triangles so strong? Scouts will work collaboratively to learn about both the physical science and history of arch and truss bridges. Scouts will perform five experiments to investigate the inherent strength of these shapes and discover why civil engineers frequently use them in the design and construction of structures in general and bridges in particular. Finally, Scouts will build a sturdy structure made out of triangles to take away with them.

Cost: $25.00 per scout.
