A Century of Tinplate chronicles the history of tinplate
toy trains through the 20th century. Starting in the
1890’s, tinplate trains became popular toys for the
children of Europe and the United States.
Prized for their colorful and detailed lithographed
cars, tinplate trains captured the imagination of youth
and adults alike; laying the foundation for the hobby
of model railroading. The museum’s collection of
early 20th century tinplate toy trains will be on display
to intrigue audiences of the 21st century just as they
did over 100 years ago.
